7.20am - Bobby's first breakdown - Balsall Common - all of 35 minutes into the journey!
FRIDAY 24th August - 6.45am - Met Brinner and Bobby at Asda petrol station in Tamworth. Straight off to Water Orton to meet up with Andy.
Bobby fixing his Lambretta - you don't see that very often! almost looks like he knows what he's doing!
8.45 am Bobby's second breakdown - we've almost made it out of Warwickshire!
Andy pushing Bobby's Scooter! Fair enough - you can only push so much in one day!
10.30am and we reached M4 services - A few scooters about as well as bikers and lots of holiday makers on coach trips!
50 Miles completed since last breakdown!
By 12.45 we have reached Portsmouth and dive straight in to Tesco's cafe for a coffee and catch our breath!
Waiting for the ferry and somebody's scooter wouldn't start - yes that's right - BOBBY. He had to push it on the ferry.
We got on the ferry at 2.00pm.
2.00pm On the ferry - Brinner's lunch with a love note from Mel! Both very much enjoyed by all!
3.00pm and we reach our hotel - The Premier Travel Inn - Newport. Settled in and then rode out for dinner at the Wishing Well pub. My clutch was playing up a bit and Andy was on his back in the car park fixing it - good man! - (This is not classed as a breakdown so the score is still Brinner, Kimbo & Andy 0 - 3 Bobby !!). On the way back I was behind Brinner on the way back when at about 60mph something fell off his scooter. It bounced in the air higher than my head. It was at this point that I could identify it as his KICKSTART!! He popped back later and collected it. Afew cans in the hotel room - Andy tellling Bobby his rate is 35 quid an hour and at this rate he would have to take out a loan to get home!
A quiet but good night at a local pub in Newport - Although the pavements were wider than normal - Bobby fell off the curb twice and Andy made his first and second visit into the bushes - this was not to be his last!
Sat 24/08/07 - Breakfast at McDonalds in Newport opposite Oxfam!
Saturday 25th August - Went down and changed my spark plug and fitted Bobby's legshield banner. Breakfast at McDonalds followed by a swift walk around the finest stores Newport had to offer - Bobby and Brinner bought shirts from Oxfam and when my sandal broke (yes it was that hot!) I had to buy some trainers from age concern for 5.99 - we know how to enjoy ourselves in style!
The parts fair - very busy and very hot!
Oil Hmmm wonder what that's for?!
Kimbo look a scooter!
Bet he hasn't turned in on tw*t!
You can never find a f***ing scooter mechanic when you need one!
I know I left it here somewhere!
Can you believe it! Running repairs to Bobby's scooter!
The black Vespa next to it seems OK though!
Yes I reckon it could beat a TS1 off the lights - I'll give it a try!
I am gorgeous- my wife told me so!
No honestly I have only broken down twice so far!
2 Classic scooterist stereotypes at rest!
Ventnor - a beautiful place - could have been in the Med!
Bikers leave plenty of room around the Lammy - just in case it falls over and damages their bikes!
Look at the exhaust on that!
NO MOTOR VEHICLES! -Spot the copper who had given up!
This is an example of why we are called "inbreds"!
Molly and Dolly banners attracted a lot of attention on the promenade!
and how many times did I hear "..who the F**K are Molly & Dolly?"
Girls on scooters - NICE!
These scooters seemed to atract a lot of attention from middle aged men with cameras - some had fully extended zoom lenses - can't understand why!
The run out - scooters going past for 30mins in a 2 stroke haze!
2 Stroke heaven - see the haze!
Sunday 3.00pm on th ferry home.
4.45. M27/A335 junction Bobby has more problems.
Andy and Bobby discuss what day we might get home at this rate. Andy later passes more than time in the woods!
Even Brinners scoot is a posser!
After racing through lanes in the dark at 60mph+ - stopping to clear the bugs from visors was thought prudent!!
About 10.30 at the M40 A46 roundabout near Coventry and Brinners throttle cable gets stuck at max revs - Andy is the only one who moves forward - personally I was rapidly moving backwards at this point. After getting on the ferry at 3.00pm we eventually got home at 11.30 - But it was a great ride and I know we would all do it again tomorrow! Can't wait for next year.
